About David Callan:
David Callan is not so much a professional actor as he is a perennial 15 year-old who’s managed to parley his impulsive adventures into a viable career in the entertainment industry. In 1986 he joined ASIO for the flex-time so he could “do theatre at night”. It was then that he discovered Theatresports and that has become the true constant of his performing life.
David has filled his professional life since then with stints in radio, numerous live productions, stand-up, film, TV and an embarrassing number of commercials, but impro is always bubbling away under the surface. In 1999 he was privileged to be cast as Noel, the electrician-savant in “Going Home”, the ground-breaking improvised drama on SBS. In 2000, he hosted the Beach Volleyball at the Sydney Olympics, turning Bondi Beach into the biggest party on the planet. Then in 2003, his life came full circle when he wrote, produced and performed “I Spied – True Confessions of an ex-ASIO Spook’, a comic romp through the seedy underbelly of Australia’s intelligence service, earning him the Critics’ Choice and Best of the Fest awards at the 2004 Adelaide Fringe Festival, and the quiet ire of his former masters. I Spied became a mainstay of David’s life with regular stagings, keynote speaking engagements at Intelligence/Security Conferences, and a podcast. David is currently in negotiations to a TV series based on the show and will be remounting a live production in 2026.
And now he’s bringing his coaching style to Wagga. Be ready to go big: big characters, big emotions and strong narrative, all with healthy dose of risk and a ton of playful fun. Get set to get silly and be the biggest and best-est you can be.
