For this concert, the Phil Hatton Quartet featuring Tony Celiberti (piano), Manoli Vouyoucalos(bass) and Nathan Winterflood (drums) will be playing classic, swinging, mid century jazz in the
style of the great quartets of the era such as those led by Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, Ben
Webster, Coleman Hawkins, Benny Goodman, etc, and with particular reference to the iconic
album ‘Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section’. Also they will be featuring the wonderful singer,
Kaylene Mauri. Kaylene is a WAAPA graduate and one of Perth’s finest voices. She currently
sings with the Round Midnight band, the Lions Big Band and is a voice teacher with the
Education Department. On some tunes Phil and Kaylene will be emulating the brilliant
partnership and style of the legendary Cleo Laine and John Dankworth.
