This seminar is for students aged 13 and above. Please note there are two ticket prices for AFTK members and non-members. You do not need to be an individual AFTK member to access member pricing. If your dojo is an AFTK member dojo, you are eligible for member pricing (no individual membership required). The AFTK aims to keep events affordable and accessible to all participants.

This seminar will be held face-to-face only.

All sessions run for 90minutes each. Lunch (30min break) is held between Session 2 and 3 at 12:30pm.

Session 1 9:30am | Karate | Derek English
Countering a grab in close‑quarters karate: The seminar will focus on reframing a grab as an opportunity — a moment where the attacker commits their balance, intention, and energy into a single point of contact. Understanding the nature of a seizure; Receiving the attack without freezing; Redirecting the opponent’s energy; Repositioning for dominance; Immediate counterattack opportunities.

Session 2 11:00am | Karate | Bruce Willis
Chokes, takedowns & counters in karate: Chokes and takedowns from the clinch space - a seminar including attacks and counters from multiple positions. Chokes from standing and kneeling position. 

Session 3 1:00pm | Kobudo | Sean Hayden
Hojo Undo & Kumi-bo techniques: Bo Kihon, basis strikes, blocks and counters attacks, accompanied by impact training. A demonstartion and explanation of light points based kumite using padded Bo’s and bogu headgear as used at the World Championships.
