Beethoven and Debussy - Cuthbert string quartet
About
Beethoven expanded classical music beyond court entertainment, turning it into an art form that expresses the human spirit and inner world. The messages we find in his life and music still inspire and are deeply respected by musicians today.A century later, Debussy moved away from the traditions of German Romanticism and explored new sounds and new ways of expression, opening the door to 20th-century music.
In our next concert, the Cuthbert String Quartet presents Beethoven’s String Quartet No.10 in E-flat major, Op.74 “Harp” and Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, Op.10. Through these works, we hope to explore the bold and innovative ideas of two composers who searched for new possibilities in music in their own time.
