Navigating the updates to the WorkSafe Asbestos-in-Soils Flowchart, Halil Ahmet (WorkSafe Victoria)ACLCA Victoria is pleased to collaborate with AIOH Victorian Chapter this June for our monthly member presentation. Hosted by members of the Asbestos in Soils Sub Committee alongside AIOH members, we hear directly from industry body and experts on how the updated WorkSafe Asbestos-in-Soils Flowchart can support decision making processes.
Navigating the legislative framework associated with asbestos in soils has always proved a significant challenge, with jurisdictions, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders all harbouring different opinions and views. Asbestos contamination within soils has always been the forefront where Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Legislation collide, further adding to the complexities associated with navigating the overall process.
To combat this, WorkSafe Victoria has developed an online flow chart, which creates a clearer pathway to navigate the process from identification of asbestos contamination within soil, to management options. The flow chart represents a pragmatic approach that aims to simplify the often-complex decision making process that asbestos contamination can present.
Halil Ahmet (Principal Hygienist – WorkSafe Victoria) played a key role in the development of the flow chart, and is pleased to discuss the flow chart, its implications, and provide examples of practical applications.
