Separation Anniversary Dinner
and
LaTrobe Lecture
2026

On the 1st of July 1851, Victoria became an independent colony, separated from NSW with the establishment of the Victorian Parliament. Other Victorian institutions including the Supreme Court and the Public Service also commenced on this important day. (A public holiday before World War 1).

Each year The Victoria Day Council presents the Victoria Day Awards on 1 July and hosts a dinner to celebrate the Anniversary of Separation and to listen to the LaTrobe Lecture.

This year's lecture will be given by Moira Kelly AO, Founder and Director of the Creating Hope Foundation and Victorian of the Year 2012. Creating Hope Foundation

Moira Kelly AO has dedicated her life to the service of others.

She was inspired to look after the less fortunate when at the age of 7 she saw a video of Mother   Theresa.

At the age of 20, she left home to work with Aboriginal children in Western Australia.

So began a lifetime of supporting the least fortunate children and families overseas and locally.

Moira has worked on numerous humanitarian projects with desperate and sick children and adults   overseas and in Australia.

She has been recognised with many community, national and international awards for her   humanitarian   work.

She was 2012 Victorian of the Year and her work has been the subject of two documentaries; A   Compassionate Rage and Brothers in Arms and a Foreign Correspondent story.

The Victoria Day Council is an independent, non-political organisation maintained by public subscription. All committee members are volunteers and membership is open to all Victorians.

We have three aims:

  • To celebrate Victoria Day (1st July)
  • To support and encourage Victorians in all fields including public life, community, commerce, the arts and sport.
  • To support Victorian charities.

The Victoria Day Awards recognise the outstanding contribution that Victorians and Victorian organisations have made to our state.

The Awards are made by public nomination
