About
How do we care well for people who are experiencing homelessness, trauma, addiction and marginalisation? How do we grow not only in practical understanding, but also in empathy?Stable One’s Community of Practice training series is designed to equip volunteers across our Winter Shelter Network to better understand the experiences of those we walk alongside through our Winter Shelter programs and broader community engagement.
This year’s theme is Empathy & Understanding and will explore topics that are deeply relevant to anyone seeking to care for vulnerable people in safe, informed and compassionate ways.
Sessions include:
Empathy – presented by Dr David Wilson, Board Consultant to Stable One
Understanding Addiction – presented by Dr Ferghal Armstrong
Understanding Trauma – presented by Sarah Hawkins
Possible bonus session in September: Understanding Mental Health
These online sessions are open to volunteers across the Stable One Winter Shelter Network as well as other interested participants wanting to deepen their understanding in this space.
Participants may register for individual sessions or attend the full series.

These sessions are provided free of charge for registered volunteers within the Stable One Winter Shelter Network. A small fee applies for other interested community members, helping support the ongoing delivery of training and resources across the Network.
Please note:
- There is an option to register your interest in receiving the recording if you are unable to attend live.
- Please only select “Attending” if you plan to participate in the live online session.
- A Zoom link will be shared with all attending participants via email one to two days prior to each session
- If you are booking for multiple people, please process each booking separately
