Beyond Behaviour - a Parent Workshop
About
Beyond Behaviour - Supporting Children Through Connection, Regulation & PlayA Parent-Only Workshop
Facilitated by two Occupational Therapists & Play Therapists
Looking beyond behaviour to understand the child underneath.
Many children experience the world with sensitive, overwhelmed or “busy” nervous systems. This can show up as anxiety, emotional outbursts, withdrawal, rigidity, shutdowns, or behaviours that are often misunderstood.
This interactive workshop invites parents to explore behaviour through a different lens — one grounded in connection, nervous system regulation, sensory understanding and play.
Using a warm, practical and neuro-affirming approach, we will explore ways to support children — and families — with greater understanding, safety and compassion.
In This Workshop We’ll Explore:
✦ Understanding the nervous system & regulation
✦ “Can’t” vs “Won’t” — reframing behaviour
✦ Anxiety, protection mode & overwhelm
✦ Why transitions and uncertainty can feel hard
✦ Behaviour as communication
✦ Sensory supports — what helps and what hinders
✦ Reducing overwhelm through predictability & choices
✦ Co-regulation and supporting the whole family nervous system
✦ Responding with connection rather than control
✦ Practical strategies you can begin using at home
