High & Dry In July - Sean Simmons + Penny Ikinger (GL Mat S)
Penny Ikinger and Sean Simmons Unite for Exclusive Double-Headline Matinee at George Lane
Melbourne, Australia — Saturday July 11 — Melbourne sonic troubadours Penny Ikinger and Sean Simmons come together for a special double-headline matinee performance, High and Dry in July, at the intimate surrounds of George Lane in St Kilda.
The pair first crossed paths more than twenty years ago while performing in a medieval bar in France, where they bonded over sonnets of love, loss, desperation and redemption, unorthodox guitar playing, and a shared appreciation of French wine. Now they reunite for an exclusive afternoon designed to warm the cockles of hearts in the depths of winter.
Former The Spoils frontman Sean Simmons will appear with his brand-new band, emerging fresh from recording their debut album. Audiences can expect a set of shiny new songs brimming with major chords and underground pop hooks. Simmons’ band features Justin Avery on bass, Bec Matthews on drums, and Jon Shannon on guitar. Collectively, they have played with The Dumb Earth, Circus Oz, and Andy Kentler.
Penny Ikinger is a fuzz queen, sonic chanteuse, and primal mistress of dark folk. She will perform with the deluxe version of her band, The Marbles, delivering a rich selection of old and new material spanning the breadth of her acclaimed four solo albums. Penny Ikinger’s Marbles features Tim McCormack on bass, Julian Held and Sam Billinghurst-Walsh on guitar, Jason McGann on drums, and Ryan Oliver on keyboards — all beamed in from Melbourne’s north side.
High and Dry in July promises an afternoon of heartfelt songwriting, electric performances, and melodic warmth — the perfect antidote to the winter blues.
