Greg Boyd in Australia
About
Alphacrucis University College and Gospel Conversations, in partnership with Jesus Collective and St James’ Institute, are delighted to be hosting a multi-day conference on crosscentred theology. Featuring keynote speaker Greg Boyd, the conference explores how the cross shapes life, ministry, and our understanding of God in today’s world.Greg Boyd is an internationally recognised theologian, author, and Senior Pastor of Woodland Hills Church. He has appeared in The New York Times, CNN, NPR, and the BBC, and authored 22 books, including Letters From a Skeptic and Cross Vision. His work focuses on the cruciform revelation of God, addressing questions of divine power, evil, violence, and God’s character.
Day one: Research Symposium
Theology of Power
The power and foolishness of the cross. Power is at the heart of the Christian faith: God’s power in creation, Christ’s power in weakness, the Spirit’s power in the church and the age to come. Yet power is also a source of tension and controversy in the church and in wider public life. This symposium gathers scholars from disciplines including systematic theology, biblical studies, and practical theology to consider how Christian theology can illuminate power and its uses, misuses, and transformations.
Day two: Pastors Workshop
a more Jesus-like church
For a world seeking authenticity and truth, this workshop will equip you to reconstruct your church to reach the world with a God who looks like Jesus. Join global thought-leaders and theologians in three crucial conversations: God looks like Jesus, the Spirit sounds like Jesus and the Church acts like Jesus. The workshop is designed especially for pastors and leaders, and will feature sessions with Greg Boyd, Adam Dyer and Tania Harris from The Jesus Collective (jesuscollective.com).
Day three: Teaching Day
Hard Texts, Honest Questions
A public teaching day with Greg Boyd exploring how challenging parts of the Scripture allow an opening for honest but difficult questions. Greg will discuss the place of doubt, as well as the shocking love of the cross and a cruciform vision. Finally he will address how we might think about violence in scripture. The day will be facilitated by Tony Golsby-Smith from Gospel Conversations.
During Greg Boyd’s time in Australia he will also be giving a public lecture:
Wednesday, 4 November 7.30pm – 9.00pm
