About
Freshblood Festival is an annual theatre and art festival produced by Vena Cava Productions for emerging writers, directors, performers, artists and musicians. Every year Freshblood is made up of entirely new works that span many genres, styles and themes.
This year's theme is RISK IT!! We have invited writers and directors to put on their most outlandish scripts, as well as facilitating our own Headliner for the Festival, EVOLUTION. This year's festival promises to be a hub of creativity for experimental works. Without further ado- our line up for this years show IS
Evolution - ENDANGERED SPECIES by Mackenzie Thompson
"Endangered Species" (written by Mackenzie Thompson) exposes the brutal pressures of elite ballet, where perfection, tradition, and control fracture young dancers and reveal the cost of being seen.
Winging it by Laura Szabadics
Set in 2080, Birdsbane, three roommates navigate a futuristic house where doors can lead anywhere and birds are the superior species. The kitchen is impossible to find and Ash keeps letting down walls. This whacky crew is winging it in all areas of life. More information can be spotted @effervescent_anxiety
Making a Killing by Ad Reid
This comedy follows a cafe owner who’s struggling business starts booming after a series of murders happen in her rural Queensland town. It contains some topics that may cause distress: discussions of murder, violent crime, and death, misogyny, homophobia, and swearing. Trapped in a basement with no escape in sight, two siblings are suddenly pulled into a waking nightmare when they hear footsteps upstairs. It’s Always the Wife by Mitchell Pyke
This play follows a dumb detective investigating the murder of her landlord who she firmly believes the wife did it.
