Petersen's Book Gathering - July
About
Welcome to Petersen's Book Gathering! We'll be focusing on classics, non-fiction, memoirs and literature for this club, with the focus on deep conversations about the literature and guided conversations relating to the content of the book. Each month we'll explore a different genre as chosen by the members.
You can choose to BYO book (you might borrow a copy from a friend, through the library, prefer audio or purchase elsewhere) or you can purchase the book through Petersen's Bookstore. Just select your preference when you RSVP.
Places limited to 10 people per month - we want everyone to get the opportunity to discuss the book and generate meaningful conversation which we can't do if there are too many voices.
In July we are reading Talking to My Country by Stan Grant. Journalist Stan Grant's extraordinary speech about racism, which went viral around Australia Day, brought home some hard national truths.
He argued that the Australian dream itself is rooted in racism, and that he'd succeeded in life not because of, but in spite of, the Australian dream.
But Stan Grant also believes that as a nation, we're better than this. It's an entreaty powerfully put in his book, Talking to My Country.
Sessions will be moderated, with light refreshments provided.
