Mental Health Awareness in Aged Care
About
This one hour session is designed to build confidence, understanding, and practical skills for staff working in aged care settings. Drawing on Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation’s evidence-based approach, the session explores the unique mental health needs of older people, the psychosocial hazards present in aged care environments, and the wellbeing challenges faced by staff.
Participants will deepen their understanding of how workplace stressors, resident complexity, and organisational pressures can impact mental health, and learn practical strategies to recognise, respond to, and reduce these risks for themselves, their colleagues, and the people they support.
The session will cover:
1. Understanding Mental Health in Aged Care
2. Psychosocial Hazards in Aged Care
3. Stressors and Early Warning Signs
4. Practical Strategies for Managing Psychosocial Risk
5. Supporting Wellbeing — for staff and clients
Delivered by Sharn Elder, Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.
