HELPING AFRICAN YOUNG PEOPLE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM(HAYPEP)
About
There is a high need in the Victoria African communities for extra learning support after school hours since mostof these parents are unable to fund additional tutoring for their children and some are disadvantaged in their busy schedules or low educational levels to assist their children in their Homework. The limited levels of learning support at home for these group of disadvantaged African young people has necessitated the design of The “Helping African young people education program” (HAYPEP) by our Team Lead, Benjamin Quansah, a Victoria University
alumnus and who taught in most Victoria Schools such Whittlesea Secondary College, Springside and Baden Powell Secondary to mention a few. The HAYPEP has a component for English as Additional Language (EAL) support to our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) disadvantaged young migrant school children to enable their effective integration into the Australian School community and improve their digital literacy where
necessary using Digital Learning resources and online “Talking books” found in the “Rachel Plus” Learning Management System made available to us by collaboration with the World Possible Foundation. This digital tool kit is adopted to support all the African Homework clubs for blended learning of cohorts participating in the
program.
