Australian bassist James Shortland is proud to present Emergence, the debut album and national tour from one of Australia's exciting emerging jazz artists. Blending original compositions with new arrangements and selections from the jazz tradition, Emergence traces James' personal and musical journey through challenge, growth and renewal.Originally from Newcastle and now based in Melbourne, James has performed with many of Australia's leading jazz musicians, including Judy Bailey, Dale Barlow, Julien Wilson, Warwick Alder, Kevin Hunt, John Harkins, Andrew Dickeson, and Andy Sugg. Drawing on these influences while forging his own musical voice, his compositions are deeply rooted in the African-American jazz tradition yet speak with a contemporary Australian perspective.
Performed with James’ piano trio, Emergence is a pure expression of honesty, music and feeling. James’ invites you to come and listen in on this amazing work put together and performed by some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians.
