USING A NARRATIVE LENS TO ANALYSE AND TEACH ORAL LANGUAGE
About
Presented by Jenny BakerThis workshop explores how narrative analysis can be used to identify developmental patterns in kindergarten children's language and guide explicit oral language teaching.
Drawing on large-scale kindergarten narrative data (The Teapot Swap data) participants will examine growth patterns across both macrostructure and microstructure features of narrative development as well as productivity measures.
A major focus of the session will be the emerging role of AI in narrative analysis. Participants will explore practical ways AI platforms can assist clinicians and educators to analyse oral and written narrative samples, identify developmental trends, generate teaching targets, and improve efficiency in clinical and educational settings. The workshop will also critically examine the strengths, limitations, and reliability of AI-assisted analysis.
