On August 2, Baby Velvet returns to the stage at Merri Creek Tavern for a special full-band performance, joined by support act Ferla.Baby Velvet is the solo project of Australian artist Hannah Crofts, a singer-songwriter and visual artist whose work is the love child of Lena Dunham and Dr Dog - folk, indie and a touch of oversharing.
Her debut album Please Don’t Be In Love With Someone Else, released via ABC and produced by Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket), introduced a richly textured sonic world that quickly earned national recognition.The record went on to receive a nomination for AIR Award for Best Blues and Roots Album, as well as a nomination for the APRA AMCOS Professional Development Awards. Hannah was also awarded the Hello Daydreamer Artist in Residence scholarship, supporting her continued creative growth across music and visual art. She followed the album with the shimmering single Wild Cherry Tree Drive, produced by Tony Buchan, and later Virtuous, each expanding her sound into more atmospheric, evolving territory.
Following a national album tour, Baby Velvet has shared stages with artists including Olympia, Phil Jamieson, Kav Temperley, Mama Kin Spender, Charm of Finches, Rupert Bullard and Jeane, and has appeared at festivals such as Gumball, Macedon Ranges, Brunswick Music Festival, and the Port Fairy Folk Festival.
Currently, Hannah is in the studio recording a new record, continuing to build a world that sits between music, visual art and community connection. Known for her love of bringing people together, she’s driven by a sense of magic, collaboration and storytelling that extends well beyond the stage.
