Conceived during lockdown and completed over five years, Suburban Dreaming drifts between spoken word, poetry, memoir and song. Moving between intimate confession and surreal observation, it finds beauty, longing and grace in the shadows of everyday life.A two-time ARIA Award nominee, Dan Brodie has built a distinctive career spanning acclaimed solo releases, international touring and collaborations with some of Australia's most respected musicians, developing a singular voice as both songwriter and storyteller.
Beginning as a memoir in 2020, the project evolved into a cycle of interconnected spoken-word pieces, songs and reflections shaped by time and perspective. Set against atmospheric soundscapes, the suburbs emerge as both setting and metaphor - a landscape of quiet desperation, strange beauty and unrealised dreams.
Suburban Dreaming stands as a significant new chapter in Brodie's creative journey: an ambitious and deeply personal project that draws together songwriting, storytelling and lived experience into his most expansive and revealing work to date.
