Illume Learning is thrilled to present this highly requested workshop especially for teaching assistants!
Teaching assistants are essential to the success of inclusive classrooms - but the role is often shaped by expectations that don’t reflect what we now know about best practice. This workshop is designed specifically for teaching assistants who want to build their knowledge, feel confident in their role, and provide support that makes a genuine, positive impact for students with disabilities.
You’ll explore what the research says about inclusion and the role of TAs, and gain practical strategies you can start using straight away. The day draws on international evidence and real examples from schools across Australia and New Zealand.
Whether you’re new to the job or have years of experience, this is a chance to deepen your understanding, ask questions, and connect with others who care deeply about inclusion.
The session will be suitable for teaching assistants working both in primary and secondary contexts, with examples drawn from various contexts across the day.
The workshop will be presented by Amanda Corby, an experienced educator and consultant who has been working to support the education of students with disabilities in schools for over 25 years.
By the end of the day, participants will:
✓ Understand what effective inclusive practice looks like in action
✓ Know how to support students in ways that promote independence, not dependence
✓ Have practical strategies they can use immediately in the classroom
✓ Feel confident supporting a wide range of learner needs
✓ Leave with a strengths-based mindset and a toolkit of evidence-informed practice
