MakerSpace: Skills Workshops (CANCELLED)
About
Build your capability using MakerSpace equipment in a supportive hands-on environment. These information sessions focus on how to operate the machines, core workflows, and the software used in the space. Participants will work in small groups around each machine and have access to an individual library laptop. These workshops are designed as skill-building and information sessions and not project-based activities, helping prepare participants for independent use during MakerSpace Access. Note: These sessions are for participants aged 16 years or older, and participants may need to create their own accounts on the software, using their personal email address.//MakerSpace Skills: CAD & 3D Printing
Learn the fundamentals of creating your own 3D designs using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, followed by a short intro to slicing files in Bambu Studio. This information session focuses on basic CAD design principles and slicing workflow, for you to feel more confident to using our Bambu Lab 3D printers.

//MakerSpace Skills: Cricut
Unpack the wonders of the Cricut vinyl machines as we learn the basics of some of the amazing things it can do. This information session explores how the equipment works, review the setup process within Cricut Design Space software, and gain practical understanding of the different creative projects and capabilities – cutting, drawing, scoring with paper, cardstock, vinyl and iron-on!

Experience the basics of using our Brother sewing and textile machines, including setup, functions and safe operation. This information session focuses on understanding the equipment and how to use it effectively, as we complete common sewing steps like rethreading the needle, winding up bobbins, and sewing basic stitches.

//MakerSpace Skills: DesignTech
Explore how Canva can be used to create a range of digital media for physical fabrication. This information session introduces basic digital design tools that support making across our equipment such as card-making, t-shirt design, stickers, and badge-making. Learn how to create designs and export to SVG/PNG for our MakerSpace machines.

Optional at all workshops: A 30-minute MakerSpace safety induction will be offered in the final part of the session for those interested in joining MakerSpace Access. MakerSpace Access is our self-led creative format, where you independently use the equipment for your projects. This operates Monday to Thursday from 10am-3pm during the university semester.
