Become a Dungeon Master - Teen 2-Day Workshop (SOLD OUT)
About
This two-day workshop is designed for teens (13 - 17 years olds) who are interested in becoming Game Masters/Dungeon Masters for Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPGs. Participants will learn how to create engaging worlds, build memorable characters, guide collaborative stories, and respond confidently when players make unexpected choices.This workshop is practical, creative, and beginner friendly. Teens do not need to be expert rules lawyers; the focus is on storytelling, confidence, flexibility, and creating fun experiences for a group.
Day 1: Wednesday 1 July, 9.30am - 4.30pm
Building the Tools of a Dungeon Master
Participants will explore:
- Worldbuilding: How to create a playable setting, including locations, factions, conflicts, mysteries, and details that help a world feel alive without becoming overwhelming
- Narrative and Session Structure: How to design a simple adventure with a clear hook, meaningful choices, rising tension, and a satisfying conclusion
- Characters and NPCs: How to create interested non-player characters, villains, allies, shopkeepers, monsters, and quest-givers that players will remember.
- Improvisation: How to respond when players go off-script, ask unexpected questions or solve problems in surprising ways
Day 2: Wednesday 8 July, 9.30am - 4.30pm
Running the Game
Day Two gives participants the chance to step into the Dungeon Master role and practice running a short D&D scene or mini session for their peers. Participants will:
- Run a brief prepared adventure, scene, encounter, or roleplay moment
- Practice describing environments, presenting choices, and managing player actions
- Receive supportive feedback from peers and facilitators
- Reflect on what worked well and what they would like to develop further
- Learn strategies for managing table flow, player engagement, pacing, and nerves
The emphasis is on encouragement, experimentation, and growth, rather than perfect rules knowledge.
All materials will be supplied. Workshop is limited to 5 participants.
