RRCD Assessment & Management of Deterioration in the Elderly
This course has been designed to enhance the professional development of Personal Care Assistants, EN’s and RNs of ALL levels working in Aged & Acute Care settings who may be faced with patients / residents who show signs of clinical deterioration. It is a shared learning opportunity.
If you have recently attended the Recognising & Responding to Clinical Deterioration Course, much of the context is identical, contextualized to the aged care setting.
Recognizing signs of deterioration, documenting observations and communication
Assessing & Managing changes in mentation:
• Dementia, Delirium and the Unconscious pt.(including importance & relevance of post falls observations)
Assessment & Management of Respiratory Failure
Including:
• Applying respiratory physiology.
• Understanding respiratory pathophysiology that applies to the elderly (espec COPD)
• Physical Assessment (incl. basic auscultation, SpO2 monitoring)
• Appropriate use of O2 therapy, latest evidence and new O2 therapy devices for aged care
Cardio Vascular Assessment
Including:
• Assessing & Managing Low Blood Pressure
o Why do they faint?
• The importance of recognising sepsis in the elderly
• Managing Sepsis in an Aged care environment
• Advance Care Planning
