Librarians Live
About
It’s double the fun this year at Maitland libraries. The State Library of NSW is turning 200 years old, and Maitland Libraries is turning 80!Join us for a special panel discussion with some of Maitland’s very own librarians and discover the people, stories and surprising adventures that fill our libraries every day.
From curating diverse collections and delivering exciting family programs to helping people find life-changing information, librarians are problem-solvers, storytellers, community connectors and champions of learning – and no two days are ever the same.
Librarians themselves are as diverse as the communities they serve, coming from all corners of the globe and all walks of life. Yet they are united by a powerful passion for sharing stories, ideas and information with others.
Working in spaces of safety, discovery and opportunity, librarians are the friendly faces who help people feel supported and seen.
This special event offers a rare chance to go behind the scenes with your local librarians and explore how our beloved libraries really work.
Hear fascinating stories of Maitland Libraries over the years, discover the hidden magic behind some of our most ambitious programs and collections, and gain a whole new appreciation for the important role libraries and librarians play in community life.
Perfect for curious, community-minded folk, for book lovers, and for anyone who has ever wondered what it’s really like to be a librarian!
