2026 - Writer in Residence Community Event with Mitchell Toy

In this interactive session, Melbourne children’s author and illustrator Mitchell Toy will share the process behind his bestselling picture book The Midnight Tram, a family favourite that has been adapted to an orchestra production.Taking inspiration from the story, attendees will be invited to conjure their own picture book scenes based on places in Melbourne. They will be challenged to invent characters and actions to populate their magical worlds, and try their hand at writing verse to accompany the scene.
Thursday August 27 in the Port Melbourne Secondary College Library.
Guests are encouraged to arrive from 6:00 pm onwards as the presentation is scheduled to commence at 6:30 pm.
Glass of wine or beer upon arrival (18+) and nibbles provided.
