About

Scams are no longer a tech problem. They are an everyday life problem.

This short, practical handbook is designed to be:

- Read in an afternoon
- Kept on a shelf, not buried online

The Scam Self‑Defence Handbook does not try to turn anyone into a tech expert. It helps everyday people recognise danger early, slow down, and make safer decisions when it matters most.

Inside you will find:

- The most common scam approaches, explained in plain language
- Do / Don't skill tips for a clear decision-making framework
- Background on how scams work and how you can support yourself, your family and your community.

Kevin O’Flaherty is the Everyday Technologist. For nearly three decades, Kevin has worked across Ireland, the UK, and Tasmania in roles ranging from government IT leadership to Microsoft’s Account Manager for the state. While his career has been in technology, Kevin’s real motivation has always been people. He focuses on demystifying technology and helping everyday Tasmanians feel safer, more capable, and more in control online.

Join Kevin at the Afterword Cafe.
