Let There Be Peace brings together music spanning more than five centuries. From timeless Renaissance masterpieces of Palestrina to the luminous sacred works of Duruflé and Biebl; and contemporary settings by Karl Jenkins and Eudenice Palaruan, to the enduring message of John Lennon’s Imagine.
The first half explores peace through largely sacred texts of praise, devotion and reconciliation. Following the interval, the program turns towards the beauty of the natural world, community and hope for a more compassionate future, with works by Lauridsen, Mozart, Sullivan, Parry, Rutter and Amy Beach.
These diverse works remind us that across cultures, languages and generations, music has long been a powerful voice for peace. This is music for a world that, through its struggles, continues to seek understanding and harmony.
