This Thursday Tune-Up wellbeing series acknowledges that while attendees will likley now understand the core principles of Nick's previous workshops, the demands of legal practice can make it difficult to integrate and consistently implement these strategies over time. This series therefore provides a group of 8 x 30-minute bite-sized sessions that you can attend from your desk between 1-1.30pm as an opportunity to revisit key concepts, strengthen existing skills, and re-engage with practical resources that support optimal mental health and performance sustainably in the profession.
The content offered in each of the Thursday sessions:
Package A
- 8 October - The Window of tolerance - the early warning signs of stress, dysregulation, and psychological injury.
- 15 October - Resources for self-regulation, stress management, and maintaining wellbeing.
- 5 November - Recognising and understanding dysregulated, distressed, demanding, and high-conflict clients.
- 12 November - Skills in managing dysregulated, distressed, demanding, and / or high-conflict clients - including co-regulation, de-escalation, and boundary setting.
Package C
- 18 February - Reflective practice skills - including self-awareness, self-appraisal, and learning from professional experiences via structured reflective processes.
- 25 February - Reflective culture - guiding employees to embody reflectice practice.
- 18 March - People-focused leadership principles that support psychologically healthy workplaces, employee wellbeing, and effective management of complex workplace issues.
- 25 March - Common barriers that prevent practitioners from implementing wellbeing strategies and identifying practical ways to embed these skills into everyday legal practice.
The Thursday Tune-Up series includes 8 x 30-minute sessions at lunch time and will explore:
- Recognising early warning signs of stress and psychological injury (including burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma)
- Exploring evidence-based strategies for self-regulation, stress management, and maintaining wellbeing in high-pressure environments
- Considering practical resources that can be used in real time to increase emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and overall resilience
- Discussing skills in managing dysregulated, distressed, demanding, or high-conflict clients - including co-regulation, de-escalation, communication strategies, and boundary setting
- Checking in on reflective practice skills, including self-awareness, self-appraisal, and learning from professional experiences via structured processes
- Looking at people-focused leadership principles that support psychologically healthy workplaces, employee wellbeing, and effective management of complex workplace issues
- Exploring common barriers that prevent practitioners from implementing wellbeing strategies and identifying practical ways to embed these skills into everyday legal practice
This series will draw upon contemporary research relating to wellbeing in the legal profession and incorporate practical resources from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. The sessions will combine psycho education, reflective discussion, practical exercises, and take-home strategies that participants can immediately apply within their professional and personal lives.
By the end of this Thursday Tune-Up series, participants will have revitalised awareness of key wellbeing principles, strengthened confidence in applying practical skills to help self and others, and enhanced capacity to sustain healthy and effective practices in the legal profession.

​Nick started his career working in Forensic Psychology (in custody and the community), and have since worked in Child Protection, Family Violence and Emergency Services sectors. He has continued to provide counselling, consultancy, and workshops to these sectors, in addition to the legal sector (including private firms and Australian Law Societies), international Employment Assistance Programs (EAP), and the Insurance and Workers Compensation sectors.

Venue Access: Please note that as the Society's building at 28 Murray Street, Hobart was built in 1876 there is no lift or disability access to the downstairs training area. The Society's building at 56 Charles Street, Launceston was built in 1860 and there is no lift or disability access to the upstairs rooms.
