The Motherland Sydney Premiere (CANCELLED)
About
The Motherland is a 96-minute feature documentary that explores Sri Lanka through a deeply human and character-driven lens. Directed and produced by Kanishka Rajapaksha, the film presents a contemporary and culturally rich portrait of the island, shaped by the voices of both local communities and members of the Sri Lankan diaspora in Australia.Rather than focusing on political history or tourist spectacle, The Motherland examines philosophical and spiritual identity the island's enduring values of coexistence, resilience, and belonging, rooted in thousands of years of history. Through intimate personal narratives and striking visual landscapes, the film invites audiences to reflect on what it means to belong to a place, a culture, and a shared humanity.
