Castlemaine CI Lab – Foundations & Practice
About
Mondays: 6.30 - 8.00pmThese CI Labs are an invitation to listen, move, and discover the fundamental skills of Contact Improvisation in a supportive, playful environment. These sessions offer a chance to develop confidence with, weight-sharing, balance, falling, and improvisation while sharing a point of contact with others in movement.
The last Monday of each month will be an Open Research Session—a collaborative space where anyone can bring ideas, questions, movement puzzles, or skills they'd like to investigate together. It's an opportunity to learn from each other and deepen our shared practice.
No previous experience is needed. Everyone is welcome.
These sessions will be great preparation for attending our Sunday CI Jams and (in-planning) Underscore.
Topics we will explore together:
• Rolling point of contact
• Weight sharing & shared centre of gravity
• Coming in and out of the floor
• Falling
• Spirals in our own body and with other bodies
• Counter balance
• Practicing Yes and No & general Jam etiquette
Please note: We will be dancing in the smaller circus room, with the nice wooden floor, not on the spongey knee-friendly mats. So, if you have tender knees like me, it might be a good idea to beg, borrow or buy a pair of basic knee pads. There will be a couple of thin crash mats in the space for those who want to use them.
You can book a 4 session pass from any of the available calendar dates.
Drop in and pay cash at the session is also an option (but please bring the correct money. I may not have change)
