Join the Australia-China Friendship Society for a visit to the National Gallery of Victoria and to the neighbouring Buxton Contemporary Art gallery!We will start at NGV at 11am, where there is a fine collection of Chinese artworks, then have lunch at the Gallery at 12.o0pm befor heading to Buxton Gallery at 1.15pm
The Buxton Galley exhibition is entitled: "Poetry Goes No Further Than Language", and concentrates on a defining yet underexplored moment in Chinese contemporary art to Australia for the first time.
The exhibition examines the emergence of conceptual art in China during the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Through works by the Beijing collective "New Measurement Group" and Shanghai artist Qian Weikang, it invites audiences to consider how language, systems and chance came to define a generation of artists."
