Join us for a steam hauled Picnic Train day journey to Goulburn and return.
Saturday:
One of our heritage diesels will haul the train from Sydney Central Station to Enfield Yard where our mighty steam locomotive R766 will take over.
Experience the excitement of a steam train trip behind locomotive R766 from Enfield to Goulburn. Sit back and relax as you travel through the beautiful Southern Highlands. Upon arrival at Goulburn you will have plenty of time for lunch or to go and visit the Goulburn model show or Goulburn Roundhouse (tickets purchased seperately)
Steam Locomotive R766 will remain in Goulburn and our heritage diesels will whisk you back to Sydney.
Sunday:
Our heritage diesels will whisk you down express to Goulburn. Sit back and relax as you travel through the beautiful Southern Highlands. Upon arrival at Goulburn you will have plenty of time for lunch or to go and visit the Goulburn model show or Goulburn Roundhouse (tickets purchased seperately)
On the return Journey, Steam Locomotive R766 will be attached to lead the train to Central.

We’re excited to introduce a limited number of tickets for our exclusive Goulburn Weekender experience — a unique opportunity to escape for the weekend and travel by steam through the NSW countryside aboard our beautifully restored heritage train.
Your adventure begins Saturday morning, departing Sydney behind magnificent steam locomotive R766. Sit back, relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of a classic steam-hauled journey as we make our way to historic Goulburn.
Arriving around midday Saturday, you’ll have the entire afternoon and evening to explore the city at your own pace. Visit Goulburn’s famous heritage railway roundhouse, take in the model railway show, explore the historic streets, or simply settle into one of the many pubs, restaurants and cafés that make Goulburn a great weekend destination.
🛏️ Your Saturday Night — Your Choice
Saturday night accommodation is not included in your ticket, giving you the freedom to choose from Goulburn’s wide range of hotels, motels, pubs and other accommodation to suit your budget and preferences.
Sunday morning is yours to enjoy. Take a leisurely breakfast, explore more of Goulburn, visit some of the local attractions or simply relax and enjoy a lazy Sunday morning in town.
Then, around 4:00pm Sunday, make your way back to Goulburn Railway Station and prepare for another spectacular steam-hauled express journey back to Sydney.

Your ticket includes travel in our beautifully restored heritage lounge and bar carriage, BAM 1741.
Originally built for railway service and now lovingly restored, BAM 1741 provides a comfortable and intimate way to experience the journey.
The carriage features:

- 🛋️ Comfortable heritage-style lounges
- 🪟 Opening windows so you can enjoy the sights, sounds and atmosphere of a steam journey
- 🛏️ Three sleeping berths, configured in day mode

Buffet Car:
Our buffet car will be available for light snacks and drinks. We encourage passengers to bring their own picnic hampers.
BYO alcohol is allowed and can also be purchased from the Buffet Car.
The Picnic Train is now a licensed venue. We have obligations under our Plan of Management to ensure the safety of passengers. Whilst the Plan of Management and the liquor license act are available should anyone wish to review, some important conditions are
* Alcohol will not be sold to persons under 18 and our team is trained to request proof of age.
* There are maximum limits in place, our team is trained to deny serving alcohol where appropriate.
* No Alcohol is to be taken or consumed off the train.
BYO alcohol is allowed, however, large eskys will not be permitted
Babies and Toddlers:
Babies in arms and small toddlers may be brought along at no additional cost. Babies and toddlers must be nursed and not occupy a booked seat.
Toilets:
Toilets are available in all carriages.
Mobile Phones:
There are limited charging points on the heritage equipment. It is recommended that you bring an external battery charger for your mobile devices.
Motive Power:
Steam locomotive R766 is planned for this tour in one direction each day.
