About
Session Three: Using English VLPs in a 3-6 classroomAs more schools implement the English Victorian Lesson Plans (VLPs), many are exploring how to make the most of the two-hour literacy block.
This session will unpack:
• the evidence behind the design of the English Victorian Lesson Plans
• how writing is embedded within a text study approach, including the role of genre writing
• practical approaches to structuring a two-hour literacy block in Years 3–6.
Steph Murphy, Director of Teaching and Learning Resources, will unpack the design principles underpinning the English VLPs and demonstrate how the literacy block integrates reading, writing and knowledge building to support students in achieving the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 achievement standards. There will also be opportunities to ask questions, discuss implementation with colleagues and build confidence in using the English VLPs in your classroom.
This collaborative session brings together the Knox and Maroondah Literacy Communities of Practice. Bookings are essential as places are limited. All primary teachers of English are welcome to attend.
This session will take place at Bayswater North Primary School on Wednesday 29th July from 4pm. Ample parking is available around the school and onsite - details on carpark access will be emailed directly to participants closer to the event.
