The Firbank Journey to Prep
We warmly invite all Firbank ELC families, and external families joining us for Prep, to attend this essential first step in The Firbank Journey to Prep, our parent session: Belonging, Readiness and What Comes Next.
This is a thoughtfully designed experience for parents that reflects our deep commitment to ensuring every child and family feels known, connected and confident every step of the way as they begin their Journey into Prep at Turner House.
Date: Thursday 6 August
Time: 5pm - 6pm
Location: Prep Classrooms – enter via Middle Crescent Gate 31
Children may be cared for in the Early Learning Centre during the session.
Please arrive 15min early to drop off.
ABOUT THE EVENT:
This event provides a vital opportunity to move beyond what can be communicated on paper and to gain a genuine understanding of how the Firbank Prep experience looks and feels for children on a day-to-day basis. It will form an important foundation for the journey ahead, and we strongly encourage all families to prioritise attendance.
During the evening, families will have the opportunity to spend time in our Prep and Year 1 learning environments and experience the spaces your child will come to know. You will hear directly from our Prep teachers about the intentional design of the program, including our explicit teaching of literacy, numeracy and science, and how these core areas are balanced with opportunities for children to apply, practice and extend their learning.
Families will also gain insight into how our learning environment supports a thoughtful transition from early learning, maintaining a sense of familiarity while gradually building independence, confidence and readiness for the next stage of schooling. We will share how our small class structure and shared teaching approach allow us to respond carefully to each child’s academic, social and emotional needs.
A key feature of the evening will be the opportunity to connect with our current Prep and Year 1 families. These families have recently walked this same journey and will be able to share their experiences, reflections and practical insights as parents. Their perspectives will provide reassurance, clarity and a genuine sense of what the transition feels like over time.
You will also meet our ELC team, Prep teachers, specialist staff, myself, and our Principal, Jenny Williams. The evening will begin with informal connection and conversation, including drinks and nibbles, followed by a short presentation and an opportunity to ask questions.
We strongly encourage all families to attend this important first step, as it will shape your understanding of the Prep experience and support a confident and positive transition for your child.
