About
SimStart is our flagship three-day faculty development course for healthcare professionals who are interested in developing their skills as simulation educators. Through a combination of interactive workshops, practical exercises and immersive simulation experiences, participants will explore the educational principles that underpin effective simulation-based learning and develop the confidence to facilitate simulation in their own workplace.Over the three days, you will learn about:
- The foundations of simulation-based education, including psychological safety, the fiction contract and creating an effective learning environment.
- Educational theory and how it informs simulation design and delivery.
- Debriefing frameworks and techniques, with extensive opportunities to observe, practise and receive feedback.
- The use of high-fidelity manikins, embedded simulated participants (actors), communication scenarios, moulage and other simulation technologies.
- Writing realistic learning objectives and simulation scenarios.
- Designing, facilitating and debriefing simulation sessions as part of a small team.
The course is deliberately hands-on, with participants working alongside experienced simulation educators in a supportive environment. Throughout the course you will receive individual mentoring, participate in practical workshops, and progressively apply your learning before culminating in the design and delivery of your own simulation scenario.
By the end of SimStart, you will have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to begin facilitating high-quality simulation-based education within your own clinical environment.
