Healing Out Loud - SALA Opening Night
About
You are invited to the opening night exhibition of Healing Out Loud as part of the 2026 SALA Festival.Healing Out Loud is a black and white self-portraiture photography series that challenges the stigma around mental health and neurodivergence.
"It began where most things begin for me with something I couldn't keep carrying like the grief and the stigma I experience and sometimes create within myself. I turned the camera on myself and started making something out of it and somewhere in that process, I discovered that the making itself was part of my healing."
Bianca Joanna is an Adelaide-based photographer and emerging artist whose practice sits at the intersection of mental health advocacy and visual storytelling. Originally from Romania, her work is shaped by lived experience of migration, identity, and belonging, exploring themes of mental health, neurodiversity, and family often through intimate self-portraiture.
Her work has been exhibited across South Australia, including the solo exhibitions "Healing Out Loud" at Gallery M (2026), "Breaking the Silence" as part of the Head On Festival Open Program (2025), and "Breaking the Silence: A Postpartum Story" as part of SALA 2024. She has also participated in group exhibitions at The Mill, Bearded Dragon, Goodbank and Gallery M, Adelaide.
Joanna has been recognised as a finalist in SALA 2025, a finalist for the Don Dunstan Foundation Award, and a finalist in the Head On Festival Open Program Sydney. In 2024, she was the recipient of the Merit Award for Within the Spectrum, exhibited at Gallery M, Adelaide.
