Fundraiser for FOSTER A POTTER

Denbigh is Australia's oldest working farm (circa 1812).  It is listed on the State Heritage Register as 'sited in a very rare and intact early colonial landscape of great beauty and integrity, and is of exceptional cultural significance'.  

Denbigh's serenity and charm come from its being encircled by hills and a remarkable cluster of convict built farm buildings.  The stone stables, coach house, hand milking cow bails, calf shed, storage silos, slab barns and timber haysheds reflect the evolution of farming practices in Australia.

The current custodians, Ian and Susie McIntosh, are opening the garden and outbuildings over two days in Spring 2026.  Visit the pottery and woodworking studios, the gallery and hayshed cafe, and enjoy a walk in the paddocks.

The aim of the weekend is to raise money for FOSTER A POTTER - a charity which funds pathways for experienced ceramicists to share their skills with emerging potters, in return for valuable assistance in the day-to-day running of their studio practice.  The student develops practical, technical and business skills and knowledge necessary to setup and successfully run their own ceramics practice.

The student is expected to identify the potter with whom they would like to work, and to gain the consent of the potter to make a joint application for funding.  A panel of expert ceramicists/potters, appointed by the FOSTER A POTTER Directors, judge the grant applications.  

If successful, the student and/or mentor is provided with a stipend of up to $10,000 for a placement of up to 12 months.

The Directors of FOSTER A POTTER (Vicki Grima, Susie McIntosh & Jean McMaster) are passionate about supporting a healthy diversity in educational options in Australian ceramics.  Their goal is to see creativity, ceramic skills, and sound, safe and viable studio practice thrive in Australia for generations to come.
