About

This course educates participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health condition or mental health crisis, until professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Your instructor is Pip Cameron has been delivering MHFA courses since 2017.

Pip has delivered this course and other courses to corporate and non-corporate clients such as Ashurst, ODPP, Global Medical Solutions, Blooms the Chemist, MetLife, Revlon, Chanel, SmartEnergy, Penrith City Council, Climate Change & Sustainability | Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water; Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority and many more.

Pip delivers this course in a safe space as a mental health first aid conversation. We will work together to provide participants with the opportunity to engage and learn through the quality skills required to be a MHFAider.

Pip has years of lived experience and delivers this course with humility and a willingness to learn from participants. Pip will demonstrate kindness, patience, non-judgemental listening skills so her participants will complete this course knowing the importance of looking after our own mental health and needs, whilst being there for others and demonstrating acceptance and understanding.

Participants learn about the signs and symptoms of the most common mental health conditions, how to recognise and respond to an emerging or worsening mental health condition and the treatments and supports available.

Participants will learn:

* how to intervene early;
* respond in a crisis;
* offer support;
* reduce stigma;
* improve knowledge; and
* improve confidence.

What you will learn is how to apply mental health first aid to adults across a range of common mental health conditions and crisis situations, including:

* depression;
* anxiety;
* psychosis;
* substance use;
* suicidal thoughts and behaviours;
* panic attacks;
* non suicidal self-injury; and
* traumatic events.

Adults who complete the course become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), equipped with the knowledge, confidence and skills to provide someone with mental health information and support when it matters most.

Complete a short assessment in your own time at the end of the course to become an Accredited MHFAider. Accreditation is valid for three years.

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

* recognise the signs and symptoms of a mental health condition in adults;
* use an evidence-based action plan to initiate a mental health first aid conversation;
* assess for a range of crisis situations and provide initial support;
* understand the prevalence and impact of mental illnesses, risk factors and treatments and supports available; and
* apply self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider.

This course is suitable for individuals, workplaces of all sizes and volunteer and community-based groups. Any adult aged 18+ can attend.

I hope I have the opportunity to work together.
