August is Family History Month, and we're excited to bring the first of our free livestreamed events from the State Library of NSW to Kiama Library (upstairs).Join us for Finding Family Stories, an engaging panel discussion exploring the many ways libraries help people uncover their family histories. From First Nations family history research to electoral rolls, maps, manuscripts and convict records, discover how library staff connect people with the stories of their past.
Hosted by journalist and family history enthusiast Jane Hutcheon, the panel features genealogist Michael Bennett, family history specialist Adria Castellucci, and Indigenous Engagement librarian Melissa Jackson. Together, they will discuss the rewards and challenges of family history research, the ethical considerations involved, and the powerful discoveries that can emerge when piecing together family stories.
Whether you're new to family history research or an experienced genealogist, this fascinating conversation offers insights into the research process and the important role libraries play in preserving and sharing our collective histories.
