Loved Stories: an event for a new generation of storytellers
This year’s UTAS third year creative writing students were challenged not to "write what you know" but to "write what you love." What they produced were stories that range from the most personal memoirs to the most outlandish fantasies.
In this event, brought to you by UTAS and Island Magazine, performers Ben Walter, Jane Longhurst and Nadia Mahjouri will bring to life excerpts from the work of storytellers Amelia Warman, Konstantinos Skrepetos, Anaya Shepherd, Franklin Barker, Benjamin Wong and Maria Vagunda.
Expect marital intrigue in mid-century Bothwell, an encounter with a fearsome Scottish seagull, an esoteric cabal of poet-magicians in a parallel Launceston, the ever-rippling effects of colonialism, some nightmarish interactions with HR, and a mother who is always just out of reach.
Please come, have a little something to nibble on, and enjoy listening to the words of the new generation of Tasmanian storytellers.
