ArtsNational Margaret River - Nathan Day Workshop & Gallery
About
ArtsNational Margaret River Member Only Event.ArtsNational Margaret River is visiting the Nathan Day Gallery and workshop. Nathan Day is one of Australia’s most respected furniture designer-makers. His path began with a formative apprenticeship in the early 2000's, followed by time in England, where he became the first Australian to train at the prestigious Edward Barnsley Workshop in Hampshire. Immersed in the English Arts and Crafts tradition, Nathan developed a foundation of integrity and technical mastery that remains the cornerstone of his practice today.
Operating from a purpose-built studio, the workshop has evolved into a centre for technical excellence. Nathan and his skilled team operate at the intersection of heritage craft and modern innovation— blending the character of the handmade with digital sculpting, precision engineering, and advanced timber construction. The workshop has also developed a distinctive material language, reimagining classic timbers like Walnut and Jarrah with unique finishing processes such as traditional ebonising, scorching, and scrubbing.
Our visit will commence at the workshop where we learn about the design creation process of each piece of furniture and then move to the Gallery to see some of the results Nathan's creativity and mastery of furniture making.
