‘A Chorus Line’, conceived by Michael Bennett, premiered in 1975 and has since become a landmark in musical theatre. The story unfolds during an intense audition for a Broadway production, where seventeen dancers compete for a limited number of spots in the chorus line. The audition is led by Zach, a demanding director and choreographer, who puts the dancers through a rigorous selection process. As the dancers perform various routines, Zach begins to ask them about their lives, prompting each to share their personal histories, dreams, and fears. The musical features iconic songs such as "I Hope I Get It," where the dancers express their hopes and anxieties, and "One," which celebrates their unity and shared passion for dance. The narrative culminates in a powerful finale that highlights the dedication and artistry of the performers, showcasing their collective journey and the sacrifices they make for their dreams. Overall, A Chorus Line remains a significant work in musical theatre, celebrated for its innovative storytelling and the way it honours the unsung heroes of Broadway—the chorus dancers. It has received numerous accolades, including multiple Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, solidifying its place in theatrical history.St Hildas College Student Theatre Group is a student-run, managed and produced theatre group affiliated with the University of Melbourne, the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) and Union House Theatre. The production is composed entirely of students at St Hilda’s College who have put many hours of hard work and dedication into creating an amazing show for you all. We’ve had so much fun making this iconic show with our own flair and can’t wait for everyone to see the power of The Chorus!
