Docklands is more than just a waterfront destination; it is part of a living, interconnected ecosystem that links the Birrarung and Maribyrnong Rivers with Port Phillip Bay.Join experts to explore what lies beneath the surface, discover how this important waterway functions, and learn what we can all do to protect and enjoy this unique urban marine environment.
Hear from The Port of Melbourne about port operations within Docklands, The Victorian Fisheries Authority on fisheries management and fishing rules, The Port Phillip EcoCentre on the impacts of microplastic pollution, and the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) on minimising environmental harm and pollution risks.
City of Melbourne’s Climate Change and City Resilience Team and Regen Melbourne will also provide an overview of the Swimmable Birrarung initiative and its vision for creating a healthier, more accessible and connected future for Melbourne’s waterways.
The evening will be delivered in three parts, providing attendees with the opportunity to gain experience from industry experts, engage directly with organisations, and participate in a community discussion about Docklands and its waterways.
Part 1 – Presentations
Representatives from each organisation will provide a high-level overview of their organisation, area of expertise, and any relevant work relating to Docklands or their broader operations.
Part 2 – Breakout Conversations
Following the presentations, conversations will continue over refreshments, with a 20-minute networking and breakout session. This informal session will enable community members to engage directly with representatives from each organisation and explore supporting materials and resources.
Part 3 – Panel Q&A
The evening will conclude with a panel discussion and community Q&A, providing attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and engage with presenters across the range of topics discussed throughout the session.
