This Parent session outlines the changing nature of friendships during the Middle years ofdevelopment and how parents can support their children to navigate some of these changes.
This period of development at school, especially Years 3 – 6, often sees dramatic changes in
children’s behaviour, sense of identity and belonging, and is a critical stage that can impact
greatly on future development.
This workshop will outline:
o The unique characteristics of Middle Development
o How these variables come into play in relation to behaviour and social interactions
between children at this age
o Understanding the difference between social conflict and “bullying”
o Building empathy and emotional resilience
o How parents can play a crucial role in how children navigate this important period of
their life.
