This year’s theme is Youth Justice Reimagined: First Nations Futures UnboundThe theme focusses on the fact that state and territory youth justice systems in Australia are places in which disproportionately large numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to be detained.
OUR SPEAKERS
Dr Pekeri Ruska, is a Goenpul scholar and Research Fellow at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures, the University of Queensland. Her research centres community-led approaches to First Nations justice. Dr Ruska began her career practicing criminal law at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service before undertaking her PhD with UQ's Law School.
Dr Krystal Lockwood is a Gumbaynggirr and Dunghutti woman and Research Fellow with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures at The University of Queensland. Her research examines how justice is understood, measured, and enacted within contemporary justice systems. Her research focuses on Indigenous justice, justice systems transformation, and persistent inequities in justice outcomes.
