Theme: The Boutique Advantage: Building a Future-Proof Small Law Practice.

Designed for lawyers in boutique and small practices, the day combines practical workshops, a live benchmark data session, facilitated discussion and networking across all four mandatory CPD fields.

The day starts at 8:00 AM and continues until 5:00 PM.

Introducing Our Speakers for This Year

Jamie McCallum

Managing Practice Risk: Conflicts, Conveyancing and Independent Advice for BFAs

Jamie is a Prevention and Risk Manager at the LPLC, and is an LIV Accredited Specialist in Property Law. Prior to commencing at the LPLC, Jamie worked in private practice in a range of regional firms. Jamie has an extensive background in complex property law, conveyancing matters, and taxation issues relating to property transactions.

As part of his day-to-day role at the LPLC, Jamie is available to assist legal practitioners with all risk related enquiries, but with a specific focus on property transactions, property taxes, and duty.

Aruna Colombathanthri

Trust Accounting, Ethics and AML

Aruna is based at Australian Public Accountants in Melbourne, where he is recognised as a Designated External Examiner for law firm trust accounts. Aruna is also a founding member of the Sri Lankan Australian Lawyers Association (SALA), reflecting his long-standing connection to the Sri Lankan Australian legal community.

Through his work examining trust account records across the legal profession, Aruna has developed a practical, compliance-focused perspective on trust accounting. He brings this experience to bear on the ethics and anti-money laundering obligations facing legal and accounting practices today.

Keith James

The Value of Specialising: How Building a Specialised Brand Can Help Grow Boutique Practices

Keith is the principal of MJ Legal Pty Ltd, an immigration, family and property law firm based in Melbourne. A graduate of Monash Law School and a migrant himself, Keith has built MJ Legal with a particular focus on skilled migration and family visas, and is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Migration Institute of Australia.

Having grown MJ Legal into a specialised, immigration-focused practice, Keith brings first-hand experience of the opportunities and challenges of building a boutique legal brand. He will share practical insights on how specialisation can help smaller practices sharpen their focus and grow.
