Learn the Art. Experience the Soul of Zeibekiko.Join Zeibekiko specialist, acclaimed dance teacher, and Zeibekiko Festival Australia Director, Sophia Ventouris, together with lead male dancer Dimitri Lahanas, for an inspiring journey into one of Greece's most iconic and emotionally powerful dances.
Zeibekiko is much more than a dance—it is a personal expression of the soul. Every movement tells a story, allowing the dancer to express emotion, strength, vulnerability, joy, resilience, and individuality through spontaneous movement.
At the heart of authentic Zeibekiko is self-improvisation. Rather than memorising choreography, you'll learn how to interpret the music, connect with your emotions, and dance with confidence and authenticity.
Whether you're stepping onto the dance floor for the first time or looking to refine your skills, these workshops provide a welcoming environment where you can develop both technique and self-expression.
Throughout this 5-week workshop you will learn:
Authentic Zeibekiko fundamentals and technique
Essential footwork and progressive step combinations
Correct posture, balance, and body control
Arm positioning and expressive movement
Traditional turns and transitions
Rhythm, musical interpretation, and timing
Traditional htipimata (rhythmic accents)
Improvisation techniques that build confidence
How to dance naturally, emotionally, and with your own unique style
Our teaching philosophy is to honour the tradition of Zeibekiko while empowering every dancer to develop their own authentic expression. No two Zeibekiko dances are ever the same—because no two stories are ever the same.
Open to both men and women of all ages and experience levels.
