This breakfast brings together Christian leaders, educators, students and people of faith to explore how followers of Jesus can live faithfully and engage confidently, in a religiously diverse and secular Australia.
Many Christians feel a quiet unease about engaging people of other faiths and none: a worry that to step toward our neighbours is somehow to step away from our own convictions. Drawing on the work of Professor John Inazu, law scholar and author of Confident Pluralism and, with the late Tim Keller, Uncommon Ground, this event offers a more hopeful path. Many of us sense that the space for open, gracious conversation about faith is narrowing, and aren't sure whether to retreat or to fight. John offers a third way: neither withdrawal nor culture war, but a confident, hospitable engagement that holds deep conviction and genuine humility together.
At the heart of the morning is a conversation between Professor Inazu and Rev. Dr Mike Bird (Deputy Principal, Ridley College), followed by a panel with Dr Enqi Weng (Deakin University), Prof. Larissa McLean Davies (ACU), and George Savvides AM (Chair, Faith Values), moderated by Simon Smart (Executive Director, CPX).
Together we'll consider an essential question for the church today: how do we hold fast to the gospel while loving and understanding those whose beliefs, values and worldviews differ from our own?
A buffet breakfast is included with your ticket. General admission is $40, with concession and student tickets available at $25.
