Vice Chancellor's Shakespeare Award

The Shakespeare Award started many years ago and was sponsored by a private donor, Ms Sally Burton, wife of the great Shakespearean actor, Richard Burton. Her intention was to foster a love and passion for performing the plays of Shakespeare in honour of her late husband. In 2019, ECU Vice Chancellor, Steve Chapman offered to take over the sponsorship. It is now called The Vice Chancellor’s Shakespeare Award. Steve Chapman has since retired, however, he has pledged to continue to support the award. Clare Pollack, our new VC, is excited to see it continue.The Award recognises the talent, expertise and theatrical ingenuity of our graduating class of actors. It gives students the opportunity to showcase almost three years of immense artistic growth through Shakespeare’s incredible language.
