The Writers Series – Screenwriting Workshop (Aug/Sep Intake) With Shayne Armstrong (Headless, Deep Water, Acolytes) and Stephen Irwin (Harrow, Tidelands, Secrets and Lies) at Jagger Rocky Studios (Mike Goldman, Big Brother).This screenwriting workshop is a great opportunity to work on a project and receive dedicated personalised feedback from industry professionals in a growing studio. It is suitable for both emerging and intermediate writers as well as actors looking to create their own opportunities through writing. There are limited places to ensure every participant receives dedicated attention and practical guidance.
The Writers Series is a four-week workshop designed for both emerging writers and those looking to sharpen their skills. Running throughout August with the last class ending in early September, each Wednesday evening session (6-9pm) offers a supportive, practical space to develop your voice, strengthen your craft, and build a clearer understanding of screenwriting fundamentals.
Led by award-winning screenwriter, script editor, and Queensland Chair of the Australian Writers Guild, Shayne Armstrong, each class begins with a focused lecture covering key areas of writing — from structure and formatting to storytelling techniques and industry expectations.
The final part of each class is reserved for dedicated time to receive personalised feedback on participants' projects, with the opportunity to ask Shayne questions, receive guidance, and refine ideas as their short film, feature, or television concept develops.
The final session features guest producer Stephen Irwin (Harrow, Tidelands, Secrets and Lies), offering insight into the industry and guidance on pitching.
The class will begin with a Q&A with Stephen giving students the opportunity to ask any questions about the industry, the development process, what producers look for and how to make a script feel market- ready and any other burning questions or topics. Following the Q&A students will have the unique opportunity to practice pitching their work to Stephen where they will receive personalised feedback directly on their pitch and story.
