The Desert Swimmer: An Afternoon with Brendan Cullen
About
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon as PHOS Camden Football Club welcomes Brendan Cullen, whose remarkable story of resilience, courage and determination has inspired audiences across Australia.Managing a 10,000-head sheep station outside Broken Hill, Brendan was living with severe depression and coping in unhealthy ways before making the courageous decision to ask for help. As part of his recovery, he discovered open-water swimming, a journey that ultimately led him to achieve what many thought impossible: swimming the English Channel.
Training in the remote lakes around Menindee, more than 600 kilometres from the nearest beach, Brendan overcame extraordinary physical and mental challenges to complete the crossing in 17 hours, covering an incredible 64 kilometres through powerful tides and currents.
Featured in The Desert Swimmer, Brendan’s story is a powerful reminder of the strength found in vulnerability, the importance of mental health, and what can be achieved when we choose to face life’s challenges head on.
